Outdoor Journal & Princecraft at the 2010 Toronto Boat Show PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 18 January 2010
The January 9th Outdoor Journal Radio show was broadcast live from the Princecraft booth during the 2010 Toronto Boat Show. Our hosts were surrounded by a bevy of rigs that make dreams come true. Everything from fishing to pontoon boats were on display and the prices were outstanding. Princecraft was giving up to 4,000 dollar rebates on certain models… obviously this year is a buyers market!
Thanks to all the Princecraft crew for putting up with the loud voices, and Jack Summers & Jack Bisby for sitting in live during the broadcast
The show carries on through the weekend of the 16th & 17th. If you can get there, get working on one of the Princecraft dealers… the prices are outstanding!!!

“Here’s a picture of Anthony Marziliano. He was a fishing fanatic and wanted to one day host his own fishing show. Unfortunately Anthony passed recently and the fishing world will miss him. Our condolences go out to all of Anthony’s family and friends”

Dear Angelo, Pete and Mike,

"It's Reggie's mom again. We finally got our picture situation figured out. Reggie REALLY wants you boys to see a few (out of the many) he caught this summer. Unfortunetely we did not get a picture of the HUGE pike he ALMOST got in the boat!"

"We managed to get one in the boat by dragging the ball and lure right on the bottom after 4 hrs of different lures depths, etc. There were another 50 boats out 1st thing in the morning and 99% of them were vertical jigging for whitefish but we only saw one get landed and the fleet was gone by Noon. I had no idea the Lake Trout were so big (and bigger) in Lake Simcoe!"

"In September 2008 five of us went shark fishing with guide Emmerson Simpson of Sharks Unlimited. We didn't know what to expect as it was our first shark fishing experience. Emmerson had everything arranged - boat, poles, bait etc. We went under power down the Bay of Fundy off Alma, New Brunswick. The Nova Scotia coast was not far off. We stopped in the chum line and drifted with a chum bait pail and six lines strung out behind and beside the boat. It was cold, windy, with 6-10 foot seas - stomach got a little queasy but no upchucks. We cut the cards for the order in which we would don the harness and land the sharks. While we waited for the first big strike we baited smaller lines and caught mackerel. This was a real blast as we competed to see who could get the most mackerel on one line. Sparkey Crandlemire was the champ with four. After a few hours one reel screached and our guide (Emmerson) grabbed the pole and set the hook. Becker (Danny Beck) had his harness on and was up. Danny is a little guy - 160 pounds soaking wet. I had the job of holding his harness ring to keep him from going overboard, back and forth we went across the deck. We went with poor sea legs. After some time Danny said "Get this guy off me, he pulls too hard". So Brent Crandlemire took the harness ring from me. After sometime a 150 pound porbeagle shark was landed, tagged, weighed. This shark got out of the landing sling, this is a very dangerous situation as these sharks have big teeth and powerfull jaws. Emmerson and the captain finally got him back in the sling and we slung him overboard and gently placed him back in the ocean. After a few gentle moves of the sling back and forth the shark was released and he swam away.

A couple of hours went by with the harness strapped on me when another reel sang out. Emmerson grabbed the pole and set the hook. Man what a fight, this shark went under the boat and tangled the line on the cooling pipes, well we didn't know what to do, so I went around the boat and back again working all the way, reversed the boat and tried forward. After a while I said nothing is working and I gave him some slack. This move did it, the shark ran deep and far. By this time my legs were like rubber and my arms were numb so I told Greg to get his harness on as I couldn't last much longer. We switched over and Greg Wark had the pole. It wasn't much longer and Greg brought it along side and it dove under the boat. The Captain and Emmerson got a look and just about had heart attacks as they determined it was a rare Thresher Shark. Greg and I fought hard, sweat ran from us even though it was close to freezing weather. Finally we landed it, this took all hands. It turned out to be a rare and endangered species called a Thresher Shark. The first ever landed, tagged and released in the Bay of Fundy. It was eleven (11) feet long with tail and weighed 363 pounds.

If you plan to go out on this boat be prepared for heavy seas, cold weather and 12 hours of fun. Take lots of grub and warm clothes."

Yours truly,
David

"I went up to Biscotasing last summer with a few friends. It was my first time up there, and it was great! We used the rail car to portage our two boats over into the adjacent lake, and on the way out, we videotaped our boat "ride" over the portage. This past Thursday, my brother-in-law tells me that he saw the rail car on the Fish'n Canada show! While I haven't yet seen that episode, I figured I just had to send you our great video footage.
The attached video is of Jay riding the boat on the rail car, and he had the perfect launch. My own launch was not so smooth... the rail car jumped off the track and came to an abrupt stop and I banged up my knees (Note that I would not recommend riding the boat over the portage... only a select few are crazy enough to do so!).

I can't wait until this summer to do it all over again! Happy fishing guys!"
Mark
