Among the islands on my lake in the highlands of Hastings— Baptiste Lake — is an magnificent island of pre-Cambrian rock, soaring cliffs and a wealth of evergreens and birch.
It is called Blueberry Island.
And it has been defaced.
This is a island that world-renowned artist David Milne, the painter whose positive critique of the Group of Seven gave them instant credibility, once painted himself, with the original no doubt worth hundreds of thousands.
It is not just another island.
For years, rock climbers have come to Blueberry Island to rappel down its cliff face and, for years, they have left it untouched and unspoiled.
And then along comes an idiot.
For high atop the cliff, painted in large white letters, are the words, “I love Lynn.”
It's like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa.
If I could find the person who committed this act of eco-vandalism, I would make it so Lynn would have no need for him — especially if she ever hoped to have children with this fool.
Anyone who does that would also kick a dog.
My advice to Lynn: Turn him in.
You don't want any part of his gene pool.
