Common Sense? August 2, 2010
Hi Ang and company,
I really enjoy your show on the Fan590 every Saturday morning. I would like to share what my wife and I witnessed during a 3 hour window on Sunday August 1st, 2010. We have a small cruiser that we keep near Bobcaygeon ON and enjoy spending as much time as possible on the boat, well on Sunday we were tied up for the day and just enjoying watching the boats and people enjoying another beautiful long weekend in the Kawarthas.
We witnessed 2 boats leave the dock with 8 or 9 people in each craft (possibly overloaded?) with many of them taking open beers and liquor out for their boat ride. Now we were also enjoying a few beverages on our boat which is fully equipped and legal as we were anchored for the night and not moving anywhere! A short time later a PWC appeared pulling a waterskier, but there was only the operator on the PWC and no spotter, they did stop and take turns for a good 1/2 hour! A little while later another PWC was attempting stunts on the lake, again the operator was being cheered on by his buddies on the dock all of whom were enjoying their beers which is fine by me but the operator of the PWC was not wearing a pfd of any kind and appeared to have left his beer at the dock
(7 feet tall and bulletproof).
It seems that many boaters and cottagers come to the lake for the weekend but leave the rules back in the city! There could easily have been an accident with catastrophic results, please keep up the good work of promoting safety on the water, but if our visitors would only bring a little common sense, it would go a long way in keeping everyone safe!
Cheers,
Fred
Outdoor Journal Radio August 2, 2010
Mr. Viola,
I request that you remove the infantile shot at soccer in the opening to your radio program. Soccer is my livelihood and passion and I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate it if someone took an unjustified shot at fishing and hunting. I can say a lot about the "importance" of your show
- not to mention the immoralities of fishing and hunting - but I won't stoop to your level. On a side note, I also find it astonishing that someone, especially of your heritage, despises soccer. It borders on blasphemy.
In any case, I look forward to the removal of that part from the opening.
Sincerely,
Vijay Setlur
