To Hawk Wawa and Home

Just returned from one of our extended shoots in Northern Ontario. This trip had us accompanied by Jack Summers of Radioworld . Our first stop was a drive to the Air Dale base at Hawk Junction and a flight into Apisabigo Lake for some Walleye fishing. This is a classic, gorgeous little lake about 2X3 miles with lots of structure. The fishing was a bit tough (I think we were at the end of a Mayfly hatch, by now the fishing should be back to 100%) but we still caught loads of eating sized Walleye as well as fish up to 4+ pounds. There are many reports of fish exceeding 30 inches (10+pounds) from here. The highlight of this portion of the trip though was the hospitality that the Air Dale boys put on for us. Steve Dale flew us in and then took the time to give us the lay of the water, recommending Walleye hotspots that they have discovered in the past. Gary McMillan and son-in-law Glen were our chefs for the stay and man can Gary cook and man did we eat! All in all, it was a great trip… well except that Angelo broke his ankle on our last day there!

Apisabigo Gold!
Half shark, half Walleye!
Gary you really shouldn’t have… NOT!

Our next stop was over to Pine Portage Lodge on Kaby Lake (thanks to Air Dale for flying us directly to the lodge and Gary for the use of his 15 Mercury). This is a full blown fishing lodge (Apisabigo is an outpost camp) with all the bells and whistles. The Mayfly hatch was finished here and the summer fishing was in full swing. Again we caught loads of Walleye (we literally caught fish at every location that our guide brought us to). We found a great little hotspot on a reef that was loaded with fish but soon discovered that the 3 – 4 pounders were in a bit different area. They were close to boulders that were essentially weed free. Jigs were the ticket here. We ended the day with a 27.5”er that will make a great TV fish. Thanks to Betty and the crew for another wonderful experience in Algoma Country!

Bill and Joel doing what they do best!

Hi there...remember me?? You came through our little town (Wawa) a couple years ago, came into Tim Hortons and we chatted!! You were coming home coming from Lake of the Woods and we were talking about fishing in this area, you had mentioned that you had never fished around here ..so of course I had to tell you how phenominal it was....today I saw your show from our area and over the last few years I've noticed you've done quite a few shows in our district...all I have to say is I told you :) and I hope you enjoy many more fishing trips in the area and I look forward to more shows
