I don't know whether he's known as Haliburton Hank or not, but that's what I call him.
And it's not a bad handle for a guy who's about to run the Uditarod — known as the last great race on this planet  .... 1,850 kilometres of hard-slog dog-sledding across a tract of Alaskan muskeg, pack ice and flash-frozen tundra.
It happens next month, and Hank LeBruin will be the only combatant from Ontario.
Hank and his family run Winterdance Dogsled Tours, just east of Peterborough in the Haliburton Highlands, and, by now they're up north.
Yes,   they're “north to Alaska . . . north, the rush is on.”
Apologies, of course, to Johnny Horton.
There was a fundraiser for Hank recently  at the Pinestone Inn in Haliburton, all to help him offset the costs of a race he knows he will not win.
But at least a 15-year dream chase will be fulfilled, and what's wrong with chasing a dream?
I, for one, cannot think of a greater adventure.
Right now, Haliburton Hank is training 24 dogs, for the race, 20 of which will make the cut for Alaska, out of which 16 will make the run.
Hank hopes to make it in 13 days, even though the record for  the race is just under nine days.
As for his Huskies,  well, each dog will burn off approximately 10,000 calories a day.
And that, my friends, takes a lot of high-octane kibble to keep those dog fires burning.
