I am not a subscriber to Ontario Out of Doors magazine, although maybe I should be.
That said, maybe my blood pressure couldn't take it if the magazine arrived regularly on my doorstep at the end of No Trespassing Lane.
The other day, for example, I almost spewed my coffee across the room when I picked up their winter edition and its editor, John Kerr, had an editorial actually supporting the new regulation allowing ice fishing in the Kawarthas.
At the end of his column, Kerr has this written: Share your thoughts.
Well, John, here's mine. I think you are playing Crazy 8s with a euchre deck.
No one with any investment in the Rice Lake — Buckhorn area thinks it is a good idea, simply because it cannot be enforced.
There are not enough MNR personnel available to check for poachers who, while feigning to be fishing for the now allowed panfish, will actually be pilfering the still-restricted walleye.
And, secondly, who's going to clean up the mess? The litter? The remains of bonfires?
Hell, you can enter these lakes from a million different directions if you come by snowmobile, and you can leave by means of a million and one.
So there is no way to protect the environment, or the walleye population.
And no way to chase down the offenders.
I know it, and so should the magazine.
Consider my thoughts shared. |

Hey I agree with you my wife and I spent the past 2 September's vacationing on pigeon lake it would be a shame to see the walleye fishing disappear.
