Transcript:
If anyone wants to know who is the most vicious of any specie, look no further than the black fly and the mosquito — two pests that drive us mad, two pests that suck our blood, that ruin our springtime and bring no relief in our yearning for sunshine in the wake of long, cold and ugly winters.
It's the female of the specie — both species — that do all the biting. Not the male.
No, the male mosquito and the male black fly seek nothing but nectar to fuel their few weeks of life while the dreaded female — evil as they are — want only our blood.
They serve no good, yet they exist.
And, yes, they do drive us mad.
The only good news about black flies is that they do not bite at night. But the mosquito does, so there you are — smelling like Muskol until well into the fall, with so many days ruined inbetween that having a cottage up north will mean viewing life through one of those goofy hats with mosquito netting.
This year, sad to say, the black fly season is predicted to having no end — what with the wonky weather . . . the rain, the hot, then the cold, then the rain, then the hot again ... having the black fly deciding that a second generation is feasible.
In Africa, and in Central and South America, black flies have been known to cause river blindness in humans.
So I suppose it could be worse.
But not by much.
