Giant Northerns of Saskatchewan PDF Print E-mail

If you saw the front page then you saw that Ang and I just returned from Tobin Lake in Saskatchewan... and let me tell you something... we caught a ton of bigguns’.

It’s by far the best fall Pike fishing we’ve ever had. The unique part was, we were stationed in one spot while throwing dead baits under floats... an old school deadly method BUT, we modernized it by using Quick Strike Rigs.

Special thanks go to the guys from Fishing Saskatchewan and Prudens Point Resort.

As Angelo stated on the front page, this show will blow your minds!!!!!

Can’t wait to go back!

Into the Fall PDF Print E-mail

It’s been a crazy latter part of the summer and into the early fall.

We returned to the Atlantic Ocean at Ballantynes Cove for another Tuna adventure and again, got our string pulled by another couple of massive beasts. A 600 & an 875 to be precise! If you ever want to experience the ultimate in pulling power, you have got to try this. Bass professional and icon Roland Martin joined us on this trip and added some great character to the up coming Fish’n Canada episode.

Ang and I hit the St. Lawrence at the Berkley B1 again and pretty much ended up the same as last year (we had more weight but dropped two places: 25th). Still made a cheque to pay for some fuel. This is an outstanding tournament in the water it’s on, the organization and the people running it. There were a few spots open this year so if you really want to try a team Bass Tournament next year and catch tons of Smallies, check out the Berkley B1.

On another recent shoot we 4-wheeled into the interior of Quebec to Moose Territory Lodge for some outstanding Walleye fishing and a touch of Specks as well. Ang and I found a nice concentration of fish on a very small weedy point that dropped into some of the deepest water in the lake… it was awesome! Jigs of course sealed the deal.

As well we had the distinct pleasure again of fishing with the almighty Mr. Reno Viola for Smallies and all I can say is… we really miss that dude. He’s an absolute blast to fish with!

More fish’n to come!!!

Kids Fishing Day PDF Print E-mail

Jerry Ouellette's Kids Fishing Day took place on a rainy Saturday but the families still endured the weather for this great annual event.

Apparenty there were 900 trout released in the pond and the kids (and adults) were hard at it putting the critters on the bank.

Even later in the day when the crowd started to subside, the trout were still biting.

Sliders by Black Angus as well as hotdogs were available to all who attended, and man did they go. I even saw Jerry carrying around boxes of hotdogs down the rainy trails in Heber Downs at the end of the day still handing out the freebees.

Great event again Jerry & crew... well done!

Cole was more interested in catching bugs and frogs than Trout... must be a Bass guy eh???

Quinter Opener 2011 PDF Print E-mail

Opener of Walleye on the Bay of Quinte is in the books and the taste of Walleye is in my system.

I teamed up with Jack Summers of Radioworld and his good buddy Claude Del Tatto for a "full" Saturday of Walleye fishing on Quinte. We based our group out of Deseronto but didn't limit ourselves to just that area.

Our first stop was the back end of Hay Bay which usually is the warmest water in Quinte. Unfortunately we only picked up one tiny Walleye. We also caught a medium sized Pike and Claude caught a giant 1.5+ pound Black Crappie. Landing that fish for Claude made my weekend!

Since the Walleye bite was obviously off (if they're not biting in Hay Bay then it's definitely off) we made a move to the Long Reach near Sherman's Point. We could see fish on the chart all stuck to the bottom. The problem is it's so deep here and add to that the wind was picking up, that bait control is an issue. Traditionally we get our fish (big and small) in that area suspended and just because we only saw fish on the bottom doesn't mean there aren't suspended fish.

The boys ran cranks and jigs while I decided to run a Slow Death rig on a long piece of fluorocarbon to basically dissect the bottom area and really try to hook what ever was showing on the chart. In no time I tagged into a nice eater Walleye. I never hang my hat on one fish so we kept at it very quickly I hit into 2 more.

I converted the Jack and Claude over to heavy bottom bouncers and spinner rigs (worm harnesses) and they instantly started to bang off fish. I think they had 3 different double headers (I love netting 2 fish at a time). My boys were on fire!!!

I then decided to change it up (you know... what a total moron does when he's catching fish) to a crank behind a bottom bouncer and came up blank. Of course by now Claude and Jack were kicking my ass and letting me know about it in their very subtle manner. Slow Death... that was me after the change.

We went out later that day for an evening fish where the Crankbait actually worked for me and caught another for the fryer and basically that was it. We kept 10 eaters for the Saturday (we had to feed 5 guys so it was perfect) and had a great time in doing so.

Sunday morning we got up, had a huge fish fry, cleaned up the place and headed home for Mothers Day... we're pretty good guys eh?????

Trips like this with your buddies or family are what fishing is all about!
